Shear Elastomeric Couplings

Shear Elastomeric Couplings
« Back to Glossary
Elastomeric shear coupling: a coupling which the torque is transmitted through an elastomeric element which is principally loaded in shear. This type of coupling can be in the form of: Rubber tyre coupling, bonded shear coupling or donut elastomeric shear coupling. In essence these are couplings with an elastomeric capability. It uses elastic material as a substitute to metal parts where usually this would break. This saves time and money and means the couplings requite less lubrication. Provides greater accommodation to altering angular and parallel misalignment.
